Cessnock Show will host a qualifying event for the Harness Racing NSW Off The Track series for standardbreds – the first of its kind in NSW.

The series is presented by the Standardbred Pleasure and Performance Horse Association of NSW and focuses on the transition from harness racing to show horse for standardbreds.
The Cessnock event will be the second-last of nine qualifying rounds for the grand final, which will be held at Tamworth Showgrounds on March 18.
Cessnock Show is on this Friday and Saturday, with the horse class competitions running all day from 8.30am.
Other highlights of the show include rides, trotters and mini-trotters, Aussie Outlaw Karts, Kurri Speedway Club demonstrations both days, and the demolition derby and fireworks spectacular on Saturday night.
The weather is predicted to be mostly sunny, with a top of 32 degrees on Friday and 36 on Saturday, and the chance of less than one millimetre of rain both days.
Tickets are $10 for adults; $5 for children aged five to 16, pensioners and concession card holders; and $25 for a family pass. Children under five enter free.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 24
- 6am: Gates open
- 8.30am: Horse class competition (all day).
- 9am: Pavilion judging (poultry). Professor Wallace’s Puppet Show (four shows during the day)
- 11am-4pm: Hunter Valley Zoo petting zoo animal display in the pavilion
- 2.30pm: Trotters and mini-trotters
- 5pm: Aussie Outlaw Karts
- 6pm: Kurri Speedway Club motorbikes demonstration
- 7pm: Official opening by Cessnock MP Clayton Barr
- 7.30pm: Demolition Derby
- 9pm: Fireworks spectacular
