The competition will be held at Hotel Cessnock, and the organisers anticipate about 80 people will attend.
CWA Cessnock branch president Ellice Schrader said it has been many years since Cessnock hosted the group competition, and that they are looking forward to welcoming their visitors.
The day will start with a service at the Cessnock Uniting Church, followed by viewing of the entries and lunch at the hotel.
The Hunter River Group is the largest CWA group in NSW, with over 550 members across 24 branches, spreading as far as Belmont, Nelson Bay and Wingen-Parkville.
Each branch held its own round of the cookery competition (which is open to all NSW residents), and the winners progressed to the group level.
Sections include fruit cakes, butter cakes, rhubarb cake, Monte Carlos, coffee cake, cake decorations and sugar art, steamed fruit pudding, jam, pickles and relish, gluten-free lamington fingers, chocolate sponge and young competitors.
The winners from the group round will progress to the state final at the CWA annual conference in May.
Meanwhile, the Cessnock branch is preparing to host a tea room at the Cessnock Stomp Festival on Sunday, April 8. Funds raised at the tea room will go to the Buy A Bale drought relief campaign. Donations of non-perishable food items for the farmers will also be accepted.
