The old clubhouse at Cessnock Golf Club will soon be demolished to pave the way for future development at the Stonebridge estate.
The building has been vacant since 2010, when the Stonebridge development commenced, and a new clubhouse opened in 2012.
The club’s maintenance sheds were still located near the old clubhouse, but with a new maintenance building recently completed, the site is all but ready to be cleared.
The land including the old clubhouse, maintenance sheds, bowling green and car park forms part of stages eight and nine of the Stonebridge masterplan.
The golf club held a massive garage sale in August, offloading items from the old clubhouse including memorabilia, chairs, lockers, kitchen equipment, even a telegraph pole.
Club captain Peter Conroy said the day was a great success, raising more than $5000. Many older and ex-members came along and chatted about old times, and a lot of the memorabilia was restored or returned to the people who donated it.
“It really was much bigger than I expected but it has been very rewarding to make so many people happy,” he said.
Now the “day of destruction” is approaching, the club is putting out a last call for anyone wanting to buy any of the remaining items – even the stairs and railings, bathroom sinks and electrical switchboard.
“Everything must go – if you can unscrew it, or knock it down, it’s for sale,” Mr Conroy said.
