Robotham was due to speak at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on April 7 as part of the Newcastle Writers’ Festival program, but has had to withdraw from the festival for personal reasons.
The festival is branching into Cessnock for the first time in 2018, and the CPAC event had proven popular in the community.
For those who have bought tickets, the CPAC team will be in touch to arrange refunds and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Newcastle Writers’ Festival director Rosemarie Milsom said while it was disappointing news for his many fans, there is a possibility Robotham will revisit the region after the release of his new book at the end of June.
Meanwhile, the festival will hold events at a number of Cessnock-area schools on April 5, with Australian children’s authors Kate and Jol Temple, Yvette Poshoglian and Tristan Bancks.
