Cessnock’s Youth Week organising committee has been working hard for the past few months to organise events and activities that will excite and engage all young people.
The program will start with a big breakfast at Cessnock High School on April 6, and concludes with a DIY workshop at Bunnings on April 21.
Cessnock Youth Entertainment Committee members Lachy Campbell and Michael Sim are launching their event, Thrift Shop Kahoot, at CYCOS on April 13.
Participants are encouraged to dress in their best (or worst) thrift shop outfits for the interactive, tech-based trivia night.
Lachy said he got involved after his band Interlude played at last year's YouthFest.
“When I saw the amount of young people running events I wanted to be involved,” he said.
Thrift Shop Kahoot and a Harry Potter Escape Room (Kurri Library, April 17) are two exciting new activities on this year’s Youth Week program.
Young people will have the chance to share their creative talents at Meraki, an open mic night at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on April 14.
The popular talent quest Take the Stage returns to CPAC on April 20, with registrations closing April 9 (call Youth Off The Streets on 4936 1917).
Signature event YouthFest, now in its fourteenth year, is expected to attract large crowds to East Cessnock Skate Park on April 14. The free event includes live music and a bike, skate and scooter competition.
Cessnock Youth Entertainment Committee member Georgia Cunningham has been involved with YouthFest for a couple of years and said it’s a great event.
“YouthFest is a celebration of young people, run by young people and is always such a fun time,” Georgia said.
