Cessnock City Council will host a community drop-in session at Pokolbin Community Hall on Tuesday, March 27 from 4pm to 6pm; to give people the chance to find out more about the project before work begins.
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent is encouraging residents to come along to the drop-in session.
“This community drop-in session is an opportunity for residents to have a conversation with council officers about the project and get their questions answered,” he said.
The works being undertaken on the bridge include the replacement of the timber deck, stringers, top chords, timber vertical struts and rails.
The structure of Gillies Bridge is an extremely unique heritage item, as it is one of only eight remaining de Burgh truss bridges in Australia. Ernest de Burgh joined the NSW Public Works Department in 1895 and introduced the new design in 1899.
