Bec, who was also Miss Cessnock City in 2006, worked at the Advertiser for seven years before moving on to become Fairfax Newcastle and Hunter’s features and special publications manager at the end of 2015.
She’s competing with other familiar faces from the Hunter, who have all been paired with professionals from the Newcastle Dance Academy.
The 12 amateurs will call on their inner tiny dancer to raise money for the Cancer Council at NEX Newcastle West on June 16.
Bec, who lives at Weston, admits she’s “not a dancer”, but said she’s going to give it her all.
It’s a cause she is passionate about – she spent many years as a volunteer on the Cessnock Relay For Life committee, including a stint as co-chair in 2014.
“I’m honoured. The whole group is in it to raise as much awareness and money as possible,” she said.
This year’s stars also include Jane Goldsmith (NBN News), Sophie Tiller (NewFM), Jeremy Smith (Newcastle Knights), Wayne Rogers (entertainer), Brad Garrard (HLM Mullane & Son), Campbell Rogers (Sydney Junction Hotel), Jamie Lewis (Out Of The Square Media), Jes Thompson (Event Cinemas, Kotara), Phil Breese (Quarry Mining and Construction), Rod Cooper (The Movement Collective) and Tiffany Naysmith (Tyrrell's Wines).
