The Cessnock Senior Citizens Association has partnered with Marthaville Guildry for an open day at the historic house on Thursday, April 12.
The arts and cultural centre will be open for viewing, with hundreds of hand-made items on display and for sale.
The Cessnock Seniors Choir will perform in the outdoor gazebo, with a picnic-style set-up including tea, coffee and light refreshments.
Cessnock Senior Citizens Association treasurer Michael Griggs said the open day is one of the most ambitious events undertaken by the association in recent years.
“In essence, the project is designed to introduce a wider cross section of the community – particularly the seniors’ section of the community – to Marthaville Arts and Cultural Centre,” Mr Griggs said.
“At the same time, we would like to enhance the significance of this heritage-listed building and the many attributes it offers in the community.”
The open day will run from 10.30am to 2.30pm at Marthaville (200 Wollombi Road, opposite Aldi). Entry is free.
Other highlights on the Seniors Festival calendar include aqua aerobics, tai chi, events at the city’s libraries and open days at special interest clubs.
Programs are available at council’s customer service centre, Cessnock and Kurri Kurri libraries, participating venues and online at www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/seniorsfestival.
