Cessnock boxer Zack Fitzpatrick has taken the next exciting step in his burgeoning boxing career, after claiming the Junior 41kg Interstate Title in Queensland in March.

The junior slugger stepped up a weight class to contest the interstate competition, securing what his trainer Ben Crampton described as “a good solid win”.

“He was fighting a very experienced opponent in Brodi Halliwell, who has 26 fights under his belt,” Crampton, of Crampton’s Boxing Academy, said.
“It was a hard fight and a good test for him. He went up in weight and experience and managed to grind it out.”
13-year-old Fitzpatrick can’t fight in NSW until he turns 14 in July, prompting the fight to be held in Queensland.
Crampton said Fitzpatrick’s preparation included training alongside Blake Minto, who claimed his first world title win by defeating Argentinian Sergio Gonzalez on March 21.
“I put him through exactly the same routine as Blake Minto, who has just won a world title,” Crampton said.
Crampton says it points to exciting times for when Fitzpatrick can fight in NSW.
“It’ll put him at an advantage when he starts fighting other boxers his age here,” Crampton said.
