The Cessnock City Seniors Festival, which runs from April 3 to 17, boasts more than 40 events for seniors to enjoy.
More than 100 people attended the ‘Meet Me At Marthaville’ open day on Thursday.
The Cessnock Senior Citizens Association has partnered with Marthaville Guildry for the event.
The seniors choir performed in the garden, and the historic house and its beautiful arts and craft displays was open to the public.
The choir also performed to a huge crowd at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre earlier last Wednesday.
Other highlights of the Seniors Festival have included buskers on Vincent Street, an elders morning tea and open days at men’s and women’s sheds.
More than 1000 people had attended Seniors Festival events by Friday morning.
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent said it has been so wonderful to see our seniors community celebrated during the 2018 Seniors Festival.
“Over a thousand people have participated in the range of activities and events on offer. There has been many smiles, laughs and important community connections built during the last few weeks,” he said.
“A huge thank you to everyone who was involved in making it such a successful festival.
“This is possible through council working with various individuals and organisations in the community. It is these partnerships and their commitment that ensures our Seniors Festival is a success.”
Events still to come include the Old Brush Studio visit on Friday; the History Detectives workshop at Cessnock Library on Saturday; and an open day at Edgeworth David Museum, Kurri Kurri on Sunday.
The program wraps up with the Seven Sopranos’ show, Songs from Stage and Screen, at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on Tuesday night.
