Household quantities up to a maximum of 20 litres or 20 kilograms of a single item are able to be dropped off at the depot on Old Maitland Road from 9am to 3.30pm Saturday.
Business-related and commercial quantities of chemicals will not be accepted.
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent is encouraging residents to make the most of the free service.
“Please take a look in your cupboards, sheds and other storage areas to see if you have any household chemicals that you no longer need,” he said.
“This is a chance to dispose of chemicals that we can’t accept at our Community Recycling Centre including household cleaners, solvents, garden, pool and hobby chemicals, acids, alkalis and poisons.”
For a full list of materials or more information, call the Environment Line on 131 555 or visit cleanout.com.au.
A fortnight later, the council depot will host a free mattress drop-off service, designed to make it easier for residents to dispose of old mattresses and ensembles.
Cr Pynsent said these days are very popular and he looks forward to seeing residents taking advantage of the drop-off day in its new location at the council depot on Saturday, May 26 from 8am to noon.
“We always get a huge turn out on our mattress drop off days. It’s fantastic to be able to offer such a helpful service to our community and to ensure these materials can be properly disposed of,” he said.
“Many mattresses and ensembles contain valuable materials like steel, timber and foam which can be re-used or recycled.”
Up to four mattresses or bases will be accepted per household. Mattress drop-offs must be made using a vehicle as there will be no pedestrian access.
The service is available to Cessnock City Council residents only and proof of address is required.
