I believe that, in our area, that project is the Richmond Vale Rail Trail.
It was a pleasure to walk part of the trail with Richmond Vale Rail Trail Inc. president Billy Metcalfe, media liaison officer Kylie Martin and Cessnock City Council councillor, Darrin Gray. My husband Nick and our dog Patch joined us too!
It was a spectacular Sunday morning stroll that covered nine kilometres from the Kurri entrance to the trail along the old rail line pathway.
The bush was beautiful and the call of bellbirds filled the air. Again I was reminded of how lucky we are to have this natural wonderland right here on our doorstep.
We look forward to hosting a community walk on the trail in September and encourage everyone to join us.
It really is the perfect destination to unplug, recharge and revel in the splendour of our local area – with the added bonus of walking or riding off some kilojoules!
NBN PLANS NOT GOOD ENOUGH
Want the good news? The National Broadband Network is expected to arrive in Kurri Kurri late this year.
And the bad news? Most of us are going to miss out on the latest technology.
For many, the NBN simply can’t come soon enough. Reliable, fast broadband is essential for education, for health, for business – in reality there’s not much in our lives that, in some way, does not rely on the internet.
What disappoints me most is that, in other parts of the nation, the Turnbull Government has taken the unprecedented step of improving its original plans and upped the ante by installing fibre-to-the-curb instead of fibre-to-the-node.
Users of the NBN on fibre-to-the-curb connections will receive a superior connection that will be future-proof, deliver much higher speeds and experience fewer connection problems than a connection utilising part of the copper network.
With so many young, working families in our area, it’s important that households can get the best internet connection possible.
There is a website where you can check to see which type of technology will be available at your address, and when it should be connected. I encourage you to go online and take a look, and let me know whether or not you’re happy.
