Not only did they have spectacular weather, the ride also coincided with the camp for which it raises money, and was able to make a pit-stop at that very camp – much to the excitement of the children in attendance.
Now in its second year, the Ticnic Ride is hosted by the Whitcombe family to raise money for the Tourette Syndrome Association of Australia to assist with running its annual camp for children affected by the neurological disorder and their families.
Duncan Whitcombe and his son Bailey, 10, both have Tourette Syndrome.
The convoy of 102 motorbikes included celebrity riding duo Tex O’Grady and his dog Bundy, who took Bailey along for the ride in a Ural sidecar.
The ride started at the Lake Macquarie waterfront at Booragul, called into Myuna Bay Sport and Recreation Centre to visit the children taking part in the camp, and finished at Paxton Hotel.
This year’s event raised $5000.
Ticnic Ride organiser Trudy Whitcombe said the support from the local community for donations and prizes, as well as the support the ride received from the motorcycling community, is overwhelming.
“Individual riders donate hundreds of dollars every year to charities through the rides they attend, and I am honoured that so many make the decision to support the Ticnic Ride.”
