The Pokolbin Reds recorded their first win of the season with a gutsy 24-15 victory against the Griffins at Hawkins Oval on Saturday.
The Griffins, known for a grinding, forwards dominated game, came out firing and put on two tires against the Reds in the first 10 minutes.
The Reds dug deep and proceeded to play their way back into the game. Josh Wallace scored for the Reds first with a beautiful forwards move from a five-metre lineout, 25 minutes into the half.
Then Brenton Bailey completed a great backs move with a try in the corner one minute from half time to lock the scores at 10-all at the break.
The Reds were not going to let this game slip and Harry Kendall crossed the line six minutes into the second half and Shane Doyle converted the goal.
It was a good tussle for the rest of the half but Pokolbin had the upper hand and spent a lot of time in the Griffins end of the field.
In the dying minutes of the game Stu Garrett made a great break from half way to score a try under the posts, which Shane Doyle duly converted.
With the score at 24-10 and a minute to go Griffins got a penalty 10 metres out and crossed the line for a unconverted try .
