Now in its 54th year, the Red Shield Appeal is the Salvation Army’s signature fundraising event.
Volunteers will be out in force across the nation, collecting donations to help fund the Salvos’ vast network of social and community services.
Cessnock corps officer, Lieutenant Darryn Lloyd said the Red Shield Appeal supports many important initiatives that are used by many local residents in Cessnock.
These include – but aren’t limited to – domestic violence services, food security, and services for people affected by drugs and alcohol and their families.
“Many local people rely on these services and the Salvation Army is relying on your support,” Lt Lloyd said.
Anyone wishing to volunteer for the doorknock is encouraged to contact Lt Lloyd 0427 385 473, or visit the Salvation Army Hall on the corner of Hall and Cumberland Streets from 8.30am on the collection day.
Meanwhile, this year’s Red Shield Appeal in Cessnock will be launched with a dinner at PJ’s on Wollombi on Monday, May 14, starting at 6pm.
Tickets are $50, including a three-course dinner and entertainment by Gareth Jay.
Salvation Army trainee chaplain Brett Dunlop will give his testimony entitled “Pandemonium to Peace”.
Call 0455 101 696 to book your tickets.
