Acting station officer Adam Grieve arrived at the station on Thursday morning to find a panel of the chooks’ compound off its hinges, and all five chickens gone.
“It’s such a shame – I can’t believe someone would do this.
“It’s very, very sad.
“You wouldn’t think that someone would scale a fence to steal chickens.”
Mr Grieve said the chooks arrived at the station about 12 months ago as part of a team-building activity. The station also has its own vegie gardens and fruit trees, while the chooks provide fresh eggs.
The ISA Brown and Rhode Island Red chooks were well-behaved enough to roams the grounds during the day, and were locked away every night.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
