Inspired by the Queen’s attendance at London Fashion Week earlier this year, residents from Royal Freemasons Benevolent Institution villages across NSW – including the Kurri Kurri Masonic Village – decided to stage a series of fashion shoots and parades to coincide with Sydney’s Fashion Week.
The activities are part of the RFBI’s positive ageing initiative, which focuses on the individual and what they have to share, rather than how old they are.
The Kurri Kurri village held a fashion show and concert with residents and staff on Tuesday morning.
Residents took to the ‘catwalk’ dressed up in their favourite outfits, showing their individual style – with everything from fascinators to football jerseys making an appearance.
Students from Reach for Training provided commentary while each resident paraded their outfit.
Entertainment was provided by Scott Stenson, who performed popular hits from the 1960s and ‘70s, and the day concluded with some dancing to some good old rock and roll.
RFBI Kurri Kurri Masonic Village general manager Pam Badior said a lot of preparation went into the event, with plenty of colour, glitz and glamour.
“Some have a unique sense of fashion,” she said.
“Great fun was had by all.”
