From smoky ballads to hard driving rock and all points in between, Doug Parkinson has it all covered and is considered one of Australia’s entertainers.
Parkinson will bring his Dear Prudence: The 50th Anniversary Tour to Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on Saturday, June 2.
It’s also the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ masterpiece The White Album – the source of Parkinson’s greatest recording triumph, the iconic and masterful Dear Prudence.
Parkinson said he’s excited to revisit this amazing album and present it live on stage.
“It will bring back memories of such a happy time for me as it will for audiences I’m sure,” he said.
“I will be putting my own stamp on it, as I did with Dear Prudence, and I truly believe the music has remained fresh and vital even to this day.”
The show will also include interpretations of hits from such legendary artists as Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, Marvin Gaye, Michael McDonald, The Beatles and The Great American Song Book, just to name a few.
“Everyone of these artists have a monumental impact on society as we knew it, not just musically but socially and through fashion and politics and all other forms of the arts,” Parkinson said.
Another highlight of this exciting new show is Parkinson’s unique renditions of his own hit records The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore, Without You, I’ll Be Around, and The Hungry Years.
Parkinson said it’s a combination of hard work, a desire to succeed, persistence, love of music and a touch of luck that has enabled him to forge a successful career as an entertainer.
The 50th anniversary tour has been playing to sold-out shows around Australia, and Parkinson is looking forward to his first time playing at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre.
“Hopefully the music lovers of Cessnock will come along and be entertained and experience this big show,” he said.
Parkinson will be joined by soulful star of stage and screen, Colleen Hewett, and eight of Australia’s most admired musicians and vocalists.
The show will start at 8pm. Call into the CPAC box office, phone 4993 4266 or visit cessnockperformingartscentre.com.au for tickets.
