A free workshop at Cessnock Library on Wednesday, May 30 will provide parents with an insight into the online worlds of young people.
The free eSmart workshop will be hosted by Brad Langoulant from the Alannah and Madeline Foundation, and will cover the latest trends, risks and research, with a strong focus on social media.
It will help parents to develop an understanding of the appeal of social media and how to support their kids to stay safe, to emphasise the importance of open communication and know when and how to report inappropriate content or cyber bullying.
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent said kids are learning to navigate the online world at a much younger age, so it is important parents know the risks and how to manage them.
“This workshop is a fantastic opportunity for local parents to get tips from the experts about cyber safety and bullying and I strongly encourage those who’d like to find out more to come along,” he said.
The workshop will run from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and places are limited. Call 4993 4399 for bookings.
