The information session will be held at Kurri Kurri High School, in conjunction with its P and C meeting, on Tuesday, June 26.
Presenters from NBN Co and Telstra will be on hand for the interactive session.
The network is expected to be available at 7500 premises in parts of Kurri Kurri, Cliftleigh, Heddon Greta, Pelaw Main, Stanford Merthyr, Abermain, Neath and Weston by the end of this month.
Construction started in all these suburbs back in January.
Head of NBN Local NSW, Amber Dornbusch, said it’s important to remember that making the switch is not automatic.
“To continue using your landline and internet services, you’ll need to contact your preferred phone and internet provider to place an order,” she said.
”Connecting to a plan through your preferred phone and internet provider means the whole house can enjoy access to the benefits of fast internet such as on-demand entertainment options, access to online learning tools and the ability to work remotely.
Ms Dornbusch said the rollout of the network is one of the biggest transformations to happen to Australia’s telecommunications industry.
“We’re excited to see up to 30,000 people making the switch around Australia every week. We’re working hard with the industry to provide access to the best broadband experience possible and to help everyone better understand what factors influence their broadband speeds,” she said.
More than 150 phone and internet providers sell retail plans over the NBN access network.
Representatives from Telstra will address the meeting at Kurri Kurri High School due to its existing partnership with the school.
Telstra area general manager Tricia Wilson said the information session will provide the community with a great opportunity to connect with the technology first-hand, ask questions and understand how they can use the new network to change the way they operate at home, school and work.
“We know many of our customers in Kurri Kurri and the surrounding areas are keen to understand more about how to make the transition to the NBN network,” she said.
“The information session is designed to ensure locals have access to all of the information they need to start taking advantage of the benefits as soon as possible.”
The P and C meeting will be held in the school library (entrance off Northcote Street) from 5pm to 7pm on June 26, with the presentation and light refreshments from 6pm.
