The man won one of the $10,000 top prizes on a $1.10 Instant Scratch-Its ticket purchased at Cessnock Plaza News and Gifts.
Speaking with a NSW Lotteries official on Friday to claim his prize, the winner recounted the moment he revealed the coveted top prize.
“I just decided to buy some scratchies and my partner quickly followed me in and she just said ‘I want this one and this one and this one,” he said.
“Then when I got home, I decided to scratch it while eating dinner. I had seen that we had won something, but I didn’t realise it was the top prize.
“At first I thought we had won $10, maybe $15 at most, but then I scratched the prize panel and couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”
When asked how he planned to celebrate, the winner said he already had a few ideas.
“We’ll probably go out for a nice meal and get my car registered,” he said.
“I am really over the moon. It is exciting!”
Cessnock Plaza News and Gifts co-owner Ryan Wilson said he was thrilled his outlet had sold a top-prize winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket.
“The young couple came in and checked their tickets here and they were absolutely stoked!” Mr Wilson said.
“We have only been here since September and we have already sold a first prize in Lucky Lotteries and now this Instant Scratch-Its, so we are very happy with that.
“We hope we are on a bit of a winning streak and sell some more. We are definitely on a roll.”
