All 81 students received a brand new tennis racquet, thanks to ANZ Tennis Hot Shots and Tennis Australia’s School Partnership Program.
The college’s primary school sports coordinator Jason Hamilton said the students were delighted to receive their new racquets.
“There were lots of big smiles; everyone was very excited and happy,” he said.
The students will now take part in a four-week tennis program, which will wrap up with a “community tennis week” when parents will be invited to come along and join the children in a game of tennis during their PE lesson (which is aligned with the school’s values of building communities).
St Philip’s is one of 2650 schools taking part in the program, which has provided 80,000 racquets to first-year primary school students across Australia since 2015, with a further 30,000 to be delivered by the end of this year.
Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley said he looked forward to seeing more racquets in the hands of Australian children.
“This ongoing initiative shows out continued joint commitment with ANZ to increasing tennis participation and ensuring kids are active at school,” he said.
