Councillor Melanie Dagg has been elected to the position of Deputy Mayor for the term commencing in October.

Cr Dagg, who will replace outgoing Deputy Anthony Burke, said that she looked forward to the challenge.
“I’m excited about this new role and will continue to work hard to deliver the needs and wants of this wonderful LGA,” Cr Dagg said.
“It’s an important position and I’m very grateful for the support of my fellow Councillors.”
Cr Dagg was declared the successful candidate over Councillor Rod Doherty during Wednesday night’s council meeting.
Council’s General Manager Stephen Glen was the returning officer for the election.
Mayor Bob Pynsent congratulated Cr Dagg on her new role and thanked Councillor Burke for his service over the past 12 months.
“Councillor Burke has done an outstanding job at representing Council at numerous community events,” Cr Pynsent said.
“He’s a fantastic orator making him a great representative for Council and, importantly, a commuted advocate of his community.”
Having grown up in Cessnock, Cr Dagg now lives in Branxton with husband Josh and daughters Amelia and Eliza.
Aside from her role on Council, Councillor Dagg also serves as a member of the Hunter Water Consultative Committee, the Association of Mining Related Councils and is also Council’s Representative on the Mines Subsidence Board.
Councillor Dagg is also heavily involved with the local community, having served as secretary and treasurer for the Greta-Branxton Cricket Club for six years as well as being a member of Branxton Lions.
