The show Madame Flute, will see Jane, accompanied by virtuoso accordionist Marcello Maio and pianist Vincent Colagiuri performing an eclectic program that runs the gamut from baroque classical to French cabaret.
“I have had a career in cabaret and also in classical, often mixing the tow together, so it seemed like a great idea to run the gamut for this show.”
Jane who is a master of the French flute school is certainly no stranger to the country’s culture having been awarded the prestigious medal Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters), for her contribution to arts and literature.
She said that many of the seeds of the show were sewn after receiving that honour.
“It really was a huge honour to receive such a recognition, after which a lot of my friends started calling me Madame Flute so I thought it would be a great way to show my love for and appreciation of French culture,” she said.
For Jane, French music from the likes of Charles Aznavour, Edith Piaf, Claude Debussy, Francis Poulenc, Maurice Ravel and Michel Legrand (all covered in the show), conjures up a romance that is hard to replicate.
“French music really does have a narrative in its harmonies and its melodies,” she said.
“It’s a feeling of falling in love at first sight – it can take you on some surprising and truly satisfying journeys.
Madame Flute will be on at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on Saturday 6 October from 7.30pm.
In keeping with the theme the evening will also include champagne and canapés on arrival
