What started out as a fantastic day for Cessnock Relay for Life on Saturday quickly turned wild and woolly after rain caused a wash-out of the popular event.

Cancer Council community relations coordinator Clint Ekert said that and emergency management plan had to be enacted to make sure everyone left Cesnock Baddeley Park in one piece.
“I’ve never had to enact an emergency management plan before the weekend and I hope I never have to again,” Mr Ekert said.
Mr Ekert praised the efforts of the Relay For Life organising committee, St John Ambulance volunteers and the community who all made sure everyone left the site safely.
“It was like World War III down there with all the marquees blowing around, but everyone did such a great job in getting everyone into the stands safely,” he said.
Rain could not dampen the parade however, with Mr Ekert saying that this year, Cessnock Relay For Life raised a formidable $77,000.
“All expectations were blown out of the water,” Mr Ekert said.
