Mrs Prance, who is the oldest member of the Cessnock Bridge Club, celebrated her 95^th birthday on October 21 and has been a part of the club since its inception more than 25 years ago.

And she never misses her weekly trips to the Pigeon Club Hall in Ferguson Street where the bridge club plays.

“I tell my family: ‘nobody ring me on Friday morning because I won’t be home.’”

“I started playing bridge in my middle-70s and I used top play in Maitland and then I started to come here on a Friday and I haven’t looked back.”

Mrs Prance added that the group had become a very special part of her life.

“They’re all friends here and I don’’t think I would be here without them because they are just so great,” she said.

Aside from being a dab hand at cards (although she only plays socially), Joy is also quite ta whiz in the kitchen, with fellow bridge club members looking forward to her weekly treats of cakes, slices or scones.

Joy, who has five children, ten grand children and 20 great grand children said that aside from great friends and an active mind, the secret to a long life was simple.

“Sleep, eat and do as little as possible,” she laughed

The Cessnock Bridge Club plays every Friday at 9.30am at the Cessnock Pigeon Club Hall (24 Ferguson Street).
