With more and more people turning to this cheaper aquatic option to beat the heat, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has teamed up with the Royal Life Saving Society to remind people to make sure their portable pools are safe this summer with the Don’t Duck Out Make It SAFE campaign.
ACCC deputy chair Delia Rickard said that while portable pools – ranging from small blow-up paddling or kiddie pools to bigger wading pools, inflatable spas or high-sided flexible plastic pools – can represent a much cheaper option than below-ground pools, they can be just as dangerous.
The campaign is using the acronym SAFE which stands for Supervise, Act, Fence and Empty and calls for people to actively watch children within arms reach, learn emergency response including CPR, have adequate fencing, and empty and store the portable pool correctly.
