The program provides funding to groups working in the areas of health, social and community, environment, education and training.
Austar Coal Mine operations manager Brian Wesley said that the program was a great way to ensure that local groups could continue to have positive effects on the community.
“Via our Community Support Program, Austar has the opportunity to assist those locally-focused programs and initiatives capable of making a real contribution to the continued growth and sustainability of the region,” Mr Wesley said.
“A lot of fantastic work has been done by our community support program recipients to date and it’s great to see the positive impact they have made to our community.”
Kitchener Public School were one of the recipients of funding in the last round and put their windfall to great use by installing an edible garden at the school.
Speaking to the Advertiser after the installation of the garden in December last year, principal Luke Sommerville said the funding had allowed for new learning opportunities for students.
“This project has been a rewarding and educational experience for our students,” Mr Somerville said.
“They have gained first-hand knowledge about growing an edible garden of healthy food for their growing bodies and minds,” Mr Somerville said.
The program is open for applications until Thursday, 31 January 2019.
