Comprised mainly of volunteers, the group has worked tirelessly throughout the year, organising raffles, bowls days and various fundraising initiatives to arrive at the hefty figure.
The group has raised more than $600,000 for the Mater since beginning fundraising in 2000.
“The amount this group has raised is just incredible,” Dr Jennette Sakoff, Calvary Mater Newcastle’s chief hospital scientist in medical oncology said.
“One hundred per cent of the money raised goes towards equipment for cancer research at Calvary Mater Newcastle and it’s getting harder to get money and funding for research, so groups like this are invaluable.”
The group will hit the ground running in 2019 with an eight-day bus trip to Ballarat from March 18. Contact Marie on 0432 253 717 to register your interest.
