The 2019 Art of Ageing photography exhibition on display in the library’s foyer, celebrates older people living in New South Wales and features a learner driver, a gymnast and a ukulele player among some if its extraordinary subjects.
The travelling exhibition was commissioned by the NSW Government to promote inclusive communities for all generations.
Library services coordinator Rose-marie Walters said that the exhibition aimed to challenge perceptions of ageing while demonstrating the diversity and rage of experiences of older people throughout New South Wales.
“Misconceptions about the lives of older people are prevalent in our community, but the experience of ageing is unique,” Ms Walters said.
“Many older people are artists, athletes, business owners, farmers and volunteers, and this exhibition challenges perceptions.”
The Art of Ageing exhibition will be displayed at Cessnock Library until January 24.

The exhibition comes as Cessnock prepares to celebrate Seniors Festival 2019 next month.
