That’s why they have switched to using compostible packaging in a bid to reduce their reliance on single-use plastic.

Owner-operators Alexis and Daniel Agapiou said that the decision to use compostible packaging was a natural extension of the ethics of the business.

”We are Greek and Italian, so it was instilled in us at a very early age to cook good food, making sue that the food was good quality and as healthy as possible,” Alexis said.

“And if we are eating sustainably I think it’s just as important to look at how things are packaged.

“I don’t really want to be supporting industries that have a negative impact on the environment and the same goes for my business.”

To that end, the business recently teamed up with Sydney-based company Bio Pak who are providing Wolfpacks with clam-shell packaging that is made from rapidly renewable sugarcane pulp

The pulp is a by-product of the sugar refining industry that is also certified as being home compostable.

“The main importance for me is just keeping away from plastic,” Alexis said. “We really do try to conduct ourselves in a way that is responsible for the planet.

“My theory is, when I go, I’m going to become the earth so I definitely care about the earth while I’m here.”

While it is concerning that  just nine per cent of the world’s plastic is being recycled and reused, Alexis said he believed that with more education, people will start demanding products like the BioPak compostable packaging over single-use plastic

“For me, when I found out where the generic stuff was coming from, I started to care,” Alexis said.

“I think that as more people become aware of how things are produced, I think that will also start to care and you will see more and more of this type of packaging around.”

Alexis is a trained chef who has worked in kitchens both in Australia and throughout the world.

He added that being as ethical as possible when it came to distributing Wolf Packs calorie counted, portioned and macro-nutrient balanced meals was just as important as the quality of the food itself.

“We are Greek and Italian, so it was instilled in us from a very early age to cook good food, and as quality, cheap and as healthy as possible,” Alexis said.

“And I definitely want that quality reflected in how we package our product.”
