The partnership, also supported by Cessnock Council will see a section of the park, known as “the mound” – a remnant of the old train line that ran through the area – given some TLC throughout the year, with many weed pulling, vegetation planting and rubbish removal nights planned. Scores of eager Scouts turned out to the launch of the project on Monday night which was also attended by Cessnock Mayor Bob Pynsent and Landcare representatives.
The children gained valuable insights into weeds and how to clear the site and will be heading to the park every second week this term for Clean Up Australia Day.
Leanne Martin, a representative from Kurri Scout Group dubbed the project launch a “huge success” and said that there are also plans to make habitat boxes that will be placed on site once the regeneration work is complete.
