It was the clinical way he picked classy Isaac Buckley to pieces at East Cessnock Bowling Club that has his camp so excited.
"It was like a switch has flicked on," his father and trainer Anthony O'Meley said.
"I can't explain it any other way.
"To date he has been winning well, but this was something else. It was the breakthrough we've been waiting for.
"Buckley is a huge fighter at this weight, but he went backwards all night.
"I'm just thankful it wasn't televised because if it was, we'd have trouble getting opponents for Troy, he was that dominant.
"As it is now we'll have trouble getting opponents in two or three fights' time anyway."
The win brought O'Meley's professional record to 9-0.
Throw in 140-odd amateur fights - in which he's never been knocked down - plus the fact that at 26 he's coming into his peak years, and the world is at his feet.
There has been a feeling with O'Meley's handlers that despite his unbeaten record and growing list of vanquished opponents, he has never quite shown in the ring what he is capable of.
In fact, they believe his form in training has never quite been reproduced when it counts - until now.
"For whatever reason the boxing public have never quite seen what we have," Anthony said.
"I think he has probably put too much pressure on himself. But they've seen it now and it's scary."
It must be remembered that we're talking to a proud dad, but how's this: "I have no doubt he'll go on to become one of Australia's greatest ever boxers," Anthony said.
"I know what people will say ... that's his dad talking. But I've been seeing for a while what others are only just starting to see now.
"He's the complete package. He can take a punch, he can hit hard with both hands, he can box, he can go forwards or backwards.
"He has sparred with some real stars of the sport and they all say the same thing.
"He's going to be something else - and it's going to happen quickly. This last fight was the start of it all."
