The seminars cater to people who want to learn more about financial matters, are close to retiring and want to know how to prepare, or have retired and want to understand the pension and the options they have.
The first seminar, titled Understanding Your Pension, will be held on Friday, August 23 from 10am to noon. Topics covered will include the income and assets tests, what you need to tell Centrelink and pensioner concessions.
The second seminar, Superannuation Income Streams, will be held on Friday, September 6 from 10am to noon, covering taxation, social security assessment, income streams and investment options.
The third seminar, Accommodation Options in Retirement, will be held on Friday, October 11 from 10am to noon, and will cover downsizing, retirement villages, over-55 lifestyle villages, moving in with the family, reverse mortgages and the Pension Loan Scheme.
Cessnock City Council's library services coordinator Rose-marie Walters said these seminars are a fantastic opportunity for our community to get expert, independent, unbiased retirement and pre-retirement financial information.
