Impressive turnout for Spring Awakening
A big thank you to everyone who braved the wind on September 6 to celebrate the change of the season, with Spring Awakening 2019. It was an impressive turn out seeing over 800 people enjoying the festivities.

Exciting day at Bridges Hill
On September 7 we celebrated the completion of Stage One of the Bridges Hill Park Playground and Access Improvement Project.
Council has completed around $1.8 million of works since construction started in June 2018. The works have included the establishment of a regional playground, fitness stations, landscaping, pathways, BBQ facilities and improved pedestrian access.
It is extremely pleasing that the first stage of the $4 million project is open and ready for residents to enjoy. Council crews have been working exceptionally hard to get this community facility open to the public as soon as possible.
It is a spectacular space! Locals who are yet to explore the park are encouraged to check it out. Congratulations to council staff who continue to work on the project.
Ambulance hall complete
Repairs to Kurri Kurri Ambulance Hall have been completed.
The hall looks wonderful and completely revitalised. It will be positive to see it used and enjoyed by the local community again.
Pools open for lap swimmers
Council has opened Branxton and Cessnock pools a little earlier than normal for local lap swimmers due to the recent warmer weather.
The pools opened their doors on Monday for reduced hours, Monday to Friday 6am-1pm for lap swimming only, but this will also allow the community to pop in and purchase their season passes.
The official outdoor pool season will kick off on Saturday, September 28 when opening hours will return to normal.
Soil memorial complete
Recently I had the pleasure of visiting the Home Soil memorial located at the Anzac Memorial Hyde Park, Sydney.
Soil was collected from 1701 NSW towns, cities and suburbs and homesteads given as a home address by First World War enlistees.
There were a number of collection points in our own local government area and it was moving to see the memorial now completed.
Vale Brian Andrews OAM
It is with great sadness we hear of the passing of Brian Andrews OAM, a valued member of the community. Brian's contributions to the Seniors Festival were always valued. Brian's commitment to the Edgeworth David Museum will also be missed.
Go the Goannas
Wishing the Cessnock Goannas all the best for Sunday's Grand Final. I'll be cheering them on!
