The Cessnock Relay For Life is just 10 days away, but there's still time to sign up and join the Cancer Council fundraiser at Baddeley Park.
About 100 people in 23 teams are already registered to hit the track at Baddeley Park on Saturday, October 12.
Relay For Life is a teams event that raises funds for Cancer Council's research, prevention, information and support services - including transport-to-treatment, the SunSmart program and the Cancer Council Helpline.
It has been held annually in Cessnock since 2008, and has raised more than $1 million over the past 11 years.
The 2019 committee has set a fundraising goal of $70,000.
Committee co-chair Marlie Caban said they look forward to welcoming new teams, as well as returning relayers, to this year's event to celebrate cancer survival, remember loved ones lost, and walk for hope.
"It's a great way for the community to get together and support each other with a common goal - hope for a cancer-free future," Ms Caban said.
The event opens at 10am with a survivors' and carers' lap, and there's plenty of entertainment on stage throughout the day, including kids' activities, live music, dance performances, karate demonstrations, line dancing, Zumba, a tug-of-war and a boot camp.
There's no running involved (unless you really want to), and while the idea is to have one team member on the track at all times, there's no pressure to do so.
Food and drink will be available throughout the event.
The candlelight ceremony of hope - which honours loved ones lost to cancer - will be held on dusk, followed by a lap of remembrance.
A fireworks display will be held at around 9pm, and the event will close at 10pm.
Survivors and carers are encouraged to register as a morning tea will follow the opening lap. Email cessnockrfl@nswcc.org.au or call 6572 5400.
Team shirts can be collected at Wine Country Motor Inn on Tuesday, October 8 at 6pm; and at Baddeley Park on the day of the relay from 7am.
