Resident teacher at Newcastle's Losang Dragpa Kadampa Buddhist Centre, Mick Marcon will be at Cessnock Library on Thursday, October 10 from for a free talk about the book How to Solve Our Human Problems: The Four Noble Truths.

Mick has been studying and practicing Kadampa Buddhism for over 15 years and has taught meditation and Buddhism in Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, Taree, Forster and Port Macquarie.

The practices in this fascinating book are the teachings of the Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, a meditation master and internationally renowned teacher of Buddhism.

Library services coordinator Rose-marie Walters said this talk is a great opportunity for those who are interested in learning more about the Buddhist practice and applying the methods presented to their own lives.

"Many of us seek inner peace at some stage of our busy modern lives, and Cessnock City Library is pleased to host an expert to help you achieve this," Ms Walters said.

"October is also Mental Health Month and this talk is around supporting mental wellbeing, health and giving our community an opportunity to learn more about mindfulness skills."

Mick's talk will run from 5.30pm to 6.30pm Thursday, October 10.

Kurri Kurri Library will host athlete-turned-author Andrew Jobling on Monday 14 October to talk about optimal wellbeing and his book, The Wellness Puzzle.

Andrew played professional football with the St Kilda Football Club for seven years and has worked passionately in a 14-year career as a personal trainer and café owner.

The Wellness Puzzle outlines seven core pieces of life's puzzle to promote real change and create a longer, happier, healthier version of life, along with sharing powerful messages of motivation.

Ms Walters said it's sure to be an inspiring talk.

"With the high demands of life and the rush of fast-paced living, our bodies and minds are filled with deadlines, stress, anxiety and nervous energy," she said.

"Join us at this free event and learn how to take control of your wellbeing one step at a time."

Andrew's talk will run from 10.30am to 12pm on October 14.
