The Archdeacon of the Central Coast, Fr Bower will speak about his autobiography, Outspoken: The Life and Work of the Man Behind Those Signs.
It all started in July 2013 with a church roadside sign that read: "Dear Christians. Some PPL are gay. Get Over It. Love God".
It was this sign that sparked a social media revolution and catapulted Fr Bower - the Rector of the Gosford parish - onto the public stage.
Fr Bower now has a social media following of more than 60,000 people and he uses this platform to advocate for asylum seekers, Muslims, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and those identifying as LGBTI.
More recently, Fr Bower ran in the 2019 federal election for a NSW Senate seat under the Independents for Climate Action Now party.
In his autobiography, Fr Bower reveals details of his childhood growing up in the Hunter region with his adopted family, and his formative years that included coping with the sudden loss of his father, leaving school at 16 to become a butcher in Newcastle and the search for his birth mother.
His talk at Cessnock Library in November last year proved popular, so be sure to reserve your spot for the free event quickly by calling the library on 4993 4399.
The author talk will run from 10.30am to noon. Copies of Outspoken will also be available for purchase on the day for $35 each.
