A draft concept plan for a skate park at Crawfordville Park is now on public exhibition, and residents are encouraged to have their say.
The draft plan was completed following two community workshops that provided residents with the opportunity to provide their feedback to assist in the development of the plan.
Cessnock City Council's open space and community facilities manager, Nicole Benson thanked the community for their contribution.
"We know how excited the Millfield community are about having their own skatepark and it was great to be able to listen to their ideas before finalising a draft plan," Ms Benson said.
The draft plan includes a concrete skatepark, custom skate obstacles, a drinking fountain, and landscaping.
The Advertiser recently spoke with Millfield Public School students Cooper and Macy Wing, and Milla and Oscar Vaughan, who are very excited about the idea.
The children had gone to Cessnock, Kurri and Speers Point to ride their bikes and scooters, and now they're looking forward to having something a lot closer to home.
Eight-year-old Cooper said it would be great to have a skate park in Millfield because it will encourage kids to get out of the house and get healthy and active.
Milla, also eight, said having a skate park nearby would help her learn how to ride better, while Oscar, 11, said he would be there every day.
Council has secured funding for the first stage of the project, which totals $160,000, and construction is planned to start in 2020.
All future stages will be subject to additional funding being secured.
The draft plan is on public exhibition until Sunday, November 10. To view the plan and provide feedback, visit cessnock.nsw.gov.au/community/exhibition.
