Fifteen participants from Weston-based disability support provider Believe Services attended the event on October 30.
Firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW's Kurri Kurri 349 brigade were on hand to give a tour of the station and fire truck; while participants got to try the hoses and equipment, and they also learned some important home fire safety advice.
Kurri Kurri brigade captain Wayne Redfern said the participants were all keen and eager to learn and take part.
"Our crew showcased the need for working smoke alarms, cooking safely and our identity once on scene in turnout gear and breathing apparatus," he said.
"Each person in the group also practiced their Home Escape Plan in tunics and fogged-out masks to simulate smoke with great success.
"Participants in wheelchairs commented on everybody being included in the program."
Believe Services owner Lisa Wiggins said the participants had a great day, and particularly enjoyed interacting with the firefighters and learning about the hoses and equipment.
"They all absolutely loved it. It was a really amazing day," she said.
Captain Redfern thanked everyone who undertook this program, especially David Weir from Fire and Rescue NSW who coordinated the event.
