The man in the red suit will arrive at 12 noon, and be available for photographs with youngsters and to hear children's Christmas wishes.
Museum chairman Peter Meddows said the visit by Santa is all part of a busy day at Richmond Vale.
"To conclude our 40th anniversary celebrations, we will be hosting Clayton Barr MP as he unveils a commemorative plaque," Mr Meddows said.
"Santa Special Day is also the last day of steam operations each year and with the current conditions we are hoping we will be able to make this last run for 2019.
"We'd love to have lots of families come and visit Santa and also to see our locomotive Marjorie off to her summer holiday.
"We also have the fascinating Lost Diggers of Weston and other displays which will interest older visitors."
The museum gates will open at 9.30am. Entry fees are $16 adults, $11 concession, $7.50 children five to 15, and free for children under five.
