Cessnock Stomp Festival organisers are calling for local businesses to enter the Business Stomp challenge at the festival on Sunday, April 5.

Twelve teams of four will go head-to-head, stomping in a barrel of grapes for one minute each in the relay-style competition.

Snap Fitness Cessnock took out the 2019 trophy, and club manager Silvia Serto said they're looking forward to the challenge again this year.

Ms Serto said they entered the competition as a way to embrace the festival - which brought about 17,000 people to Cessnock last year.

"It's a good event for our community, not just for tourists but also for locals," she said.

"It was a bit of team bonding too - it was a quite fun."

Ms Serto said their team discussed a few strategies beforehand, but ended up just "going with the flow".

"You don't know what do expect until you do it - just let the adrenaline rush go through, and stomp as fast as you can!" she said.

Sustainable Cessnock coordinator Anthony Burke said the challenge isn't just good fun - it's also a great way to expose your business to thousands of locals and visitors.

"You will need a team of four who are willing to stomp until they can stomp no more! It will be fun, squishy and oh, your business will be promoted to 17,000 people," Mr Burke said.

There are still plenty of spots left for the individual grape stomping competitions, with timeslots at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

At just $20 for a two-minute Stomp, these tickets sell out every year. Each time slot has a maximum of 12 participants, so if you want to stomp alongside your friends, make sure you book your tickets as a group.

Or if two minutes seems too long for you, but you're still curious to have a go, come along to the Selfie Stomp area near the main stage.

A project of the Cessnock Chamber of Commerce, the festival will include stalls from more than 30 wineries, breweries and distilleries and some of the Hunter's best restaurants, entertainment, kids' activities, market stalls and more.

Now in its fifth year, the festival will be launched at a trivia night at Cessnock Leagues Club this Friday.

Funds raised at the trivia night will go to the Rural Fire Service brigades of the Cessnock LGA.
