This critical strategy is aimed at ensuring the Cessnock local government area has a "sustainable and prosperous" economy, as identified in council's Community Strategic Plan.
Council's economic development and tourism manager Tony Chadwick said the feedback from businesses and the broader community will ensure council has the most up-to-date information.
"The feedback and ideas we're asking for will ensure we have a diverse range of views to develop a clearer picture based on the current and future economic climate," Mr Chadwick said.
"This will help us build on the information collected during the Business Capability Study we did last year.
"We're looking forward to putting together a practical strategy with clear priorities that will have real outcomes for our community as we grow."
The Economic Development Strategy will be based on the key themes of productivity, investment and innovation.
It will identify the priorities and include an action and implementation plan.
Surveys for business owners, residents and visitors can be accessed via the Have Your Say section on council's website.
There's also an online ideas wall for those wanting to share their vision on the key themes.
All feedback must be submitted by Friday, October 9.
