Melissa Boucher recently started in the community recovery officer position, and will be the key contact for local bushfire support inquiries until August 2021.
The role, which was funded by the NSW and Commonwealth Governments, is one of 22 recovery positions appointed to fire-affected communities in NSW.
Cessnock was the only Hunter council to receive one.
The objective of the community recovery officer is to ensure that local needs are understood, individuals have access to important information and there is community input into plans and documents that shape recovery activities.
"I am very much looking forward to getting out into the community to identify needs, help develop local recovery programs and assist people in accessing information and resources to continue their road to recovery," Ms Boucher said.
"I am also excited to be working with local people and services to help build on the strength and resilience of the community in preparation for future disasters."
A Community Resilience Network will be established comprising of local service groups and community organisations to help coordinate and contribute to recovery and resilience activities.
Anyone interested in joining can contact Melissa on 4993 4257.
A number of grants are still available for individuals and communities to support recovery activities. Call Service NSW on 13 77 88 for more information.
