Cold air and moisture generated by showers led to spring snow falls in the Mid North at Jamestown, Peterborough and Hallett.
Residents frolicked in the snow with Hallett locals strapping on skis.
Overnight temperatures saw Port Pirie reach a low of 5.8C and Clare drop to 2.5C.
Senior Forecaster Vince Rowlands said the cold atmosphere and showers provide ideal conditions for snow to form.
"It was a little bit warmer at Port Pirie because it is by the coast, but certainly east of the coast would have been pretty cold as indicated by Clare's low temperatures," he said.
"As we saw overnight, we did see some really cold atmosphere push over the region and we had showers that formed snow.
"It doesn't happen very often, but it has happened in the past. We did have an event back in October in 2012 where we had snow fall throughout the regions.
"It is quite rare to get snow this late in September and into October, so it is nice to see it, but we probably won't see it that often at this time of year."
