But the organisers of this year's Cessnock Walks Kawuma want to flip that adage with 1000 pictures saying one word: 'No'.
About 600 people took part in the inaugural domestic violence awareness walk in 2019, but in keeping with current restrictions, this year's version will be conducted virtually.
The community is invited to submit their photos affirming the statement "Cessnock says no to domestic and family violence", which will be included in a shopfront display and online presentation.
Cessnock Walks Kawuma committee member Will Doran said last year's walk was a wonderful success, but this year could have an even greater reach.

"2019 saw many local schools, organisations as well as the general public come together collectively support the message that together we can work towards changing the prevalence of this violence in our community," he said.
"600 people walked and 700 people overall participated in the event.
"Due to the continuing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, holding a public event of this magnitude in 2020 is not achievable.
"So the committee are focusing our efforts on getting photographs of people who affirm out statement that 'Cessnock says no to domestic and family violence' to add to a public photo wall as well as online.
"The responsibility for ending domestic and family violence rests with all of us. Together we can make a difference."
Mr Doran said the committee has set a goal of receiving 1000 photos, which will be posted online and displayed in a vacant shopfront - provided by Sternbeck's Real Estate - throughout the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (November 25 to December 10).
The walk was originally scheduled for November 25, which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
On this day, the committee will be at the shopfront display (the address to be announced closer to the event), taking selfies with pedestrians and handing out information on how people in unhealthy relationships can get support.
Anyone wanting to get involved can send their selfies or group photos to cessnockwalkskawuma@gmail.com or the Cessnock Walks Kawuma Facebook page by October 30.
Selfie packs can be posted out or dropped into businesses or organisations, and USB thumb drives can also be dropped off to anyone sending a large number of photos.
