Mr and Mrs Miles were married at the Salvation Army Citadel in Maitland on October 28, 1950 - the groom aged 20 and the bride 18.
Mr Miles was born at North Rothbury and grew up around Greta, Lochinvar and Maitland, while Mrs Miles was born and raised in Maitland, living at Walka Water Works.
The couple met when Mr Miles was a young butcher in Maitland, and Mrs Miles (nee Couchman) worked at a factory in the next street over.
They lived at Maitland in the early years of their marriage, moved to Cessnock in 1958 and later to Aberdare.
They opened a butcher shop in Vincent Street, where Mr Miles worked until his retirement in 1992, and Mrs Miles was as a nurse at Cessnock Hospital for 24 years.
Their marriage produced five children, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
They celebrated their anniversary with a small family gathering on Sunday.
Cards of congratulations from several dignitaries, including the Queen and Governor-General, have arrived in their mailbox.
