University of the Third Age, otherwise known as U3A, is an international organisation that provides life-enriching learning opportunities for mature-aged people.
The Cessnock branch of U3A offers a variety of activities, including weekly petanque games, plus book club, Tai Chi, craft and coffee and chat outings, monthly lunch meetings and guest speakers.
"Our aim is socialising, with emphasis on good conversation and plenty of laughs," branch member Jan Lloyd said.
"We celebrate the ability to do these very things!
"Feel free to join us and experience it for yourself."
The petanque players and some non-playing U3A members recently ventured out to Catherine Vale Vineyard at Fordwich for some gentle sport, robust jocularity and a tasty barbecue.
"These active seniors had stored energy from the recent lockdown and thoroughly enjoyed a spectacular sunny day at an inspiring location," Jan said.
"Who won? We all did!"
Cessnock City U3A welcomes new members. Anyone interested in joining can contact the secretary by emailing dg.harris@bigpond.com.
