The Cessnock Community Omega Leo Club will be sponsored by the Cessnock Lions Club, and is for young people aged 18 to 30 who want to make a difference in their community.
The idea for the new club came about last year at the farewell of former Mount View High School teacher Karen Blandon, who was instrumental in the success of the school's Alpha Leo Club.
Claire Taylor and Maxine Chapman, who were foundation Mount View Leos in 2012, say they have missed being involved in the community since they finished school.
"It will be good to get back into it and help the community out," Ms Taylor said.
More than 20 people have already expressed their interest in joining the Omega club.
"It's great to see young people are keen to volunteer and do good things," Cessnock Lions Club youth coordinator Peter Conroy said.
Mr Conroy said the Omega club will have the opportunity to support the Lions club's fundraising, and to choose its own causes to support.
"They might see different charities as interesting," he said.
Anyone who wants to join is encouraged to come along to the dinner meeting at the Australia Hotel on Friday, February 19 at 6pm.
To RSVP, email peterconroy314@gmail.com or call or text 0400 907 689, or contact Karen Blandon via Cessnock High School on 4990 1977.
