Simon Leung and Gronya Somerville's mixed doubles campaign is over, the Australians no match for Japanese pair Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino 21-7 21-15.
On the back of a first-up loss on Saturday, Leung and Somerville can no longer progress from Group C ahead of their final preliminary encounter on Monday.
After managing to grab a game in their opening loss, Leung and Somerville never really threatened Watanabe and Higashino, who held the Australians at arm's length throughout the first game.
It was an improved effort in the second game as Australia held a 9-8 lead, but again the Japanese combination pulled away, winning 11 points on serve in the game compared to just five for their opponents.
Hsuan-Yu Wendy Chen, Australia's only singles competitor in Tokyo, suffered a first-up loss to Denmark's Mia Blichfeldt 21-7 21-14.
